MUSES & MELODIES (Hush Note #3) by Rebecca Yarros
Release Date: October 6th, 2020
If I can keep Hush Note’s leading guitarist, Nixon Winters, on the straight and narrow for the next six months, I’ll finally get my own band to manage—assuming we don’t kill each other first.
The egotistical, irritating rock star is fresh out of rehab, but it’s obvious his demons followed him home—and now I’m sleeping down the hall. I’ve watched him self-destruct every summer, and with album deadlines and tour dates looming, I can’t let it happen again. My career is in his hands.
But tattoos can’t cover every scar, and I’m starting to see through his trademark, irresistible charm to the damage beneath.
Everyone wants the rock star.
I’m falling for the man.
If he doesn’t let me in,
he’ll never break the cycle—
And when these six months are up,
I might be the one left broken.
4 ‘Merciful Fire’ Stars!

The Hush Note series comes to an end with its lead guitarist’s love story and this emotional, slow burn romance was the happy ending Nixon very much deserved! This rock-star multi-authored series consumed me this past few weeks and I am so glad I decided to give these books a go. I have read from the previous two authors before but this is actually my first book by Rebecca Yarros and I have to say I am very impressed and I definitely want more. I wish we had a bit more time with Hush Note’s crew because I will sure miss them!
Muses & Melodies is the third and final installment in the Hush Note’s series and it is the love story between Nixon Winters (the fresh out of rehab lead guitarist) and Zoe Shannon (the assistant to the band’s manager). As you can imagine, Nix was about to hit rock bottom but he is now decided to keep fighting (especially for the very few people he cares about). But he is still broken and he is haunted by his heartbreaking past. Enter Zoe. She is his ‘babysitter’ for the next few months and then she will finally get to be a manager on her own. She only needs to take care of Nixon and not act on the chemistry she has with the charming but troubled guitarist. Easy, right?
That’s always how it worked, wasn’t it? I fucked up. Someone else paid the price. But not Zoe. She was where I drew the line—where my “always” became “used to.”
I just knew Nixon’s story would hit me right to my heart because it was obvious we had a broken hero in our hands from his first appearance in the series. I was highly expecting his story and I have to say Rebecca did a very good job. I loved Nixon and Zoe from the very first page: the banter, the hidden vulnerabilities, the sexual tension and their unstoppable connection. I loved the opposites attract / forbidden theme in the storyline because it just made me even more addicted to see the development of this relationship.
Loving him was a force so strong there was nothing I could do to protect myself.
Muses & Melodies is, for sure, the most emotional of the three books in the series and it’s completely understandable when you discover Nixon’s past. My poor heart broke for him and I loved how Zoe starts giving him a new hope in life. For different reasons, both of them are weakened around each other but (even though they are opposites), they just click together. As soon as they start being so much around each other, the chemistry is impossible to miss and it was beautiful to see their relationship grow. It was not easy but oh-so-worth-it! I loved seeing them get their HEA (though I wish the epilogue would be a bit more developed) together with the rest of the crew.
My need for her was constant and only surpassed by my love for her.
Therefore, I am rating Muses & Melodies with 4 STARS because Nixon and Zoe’s story made my emotions run high and made me fall in love even more with Hush Note. This couple was so wonderful together and they fought until the very end to be with each other. Overall, I really enjoyed this multi-authored series and the rock-star theme in it. I am so glad these three characters found their happy endings because they sure deserved them. Very good conclusion to the Hush Note series!
