Taking Chances Series
A sexy, friends-to-lovers, second-chance romance with a twist by USA Today bestselling author Tia Louise.
To be “just friends” with a guy, you’ve got to follow The Rules:
Don’t touch him unnecessarily.
Don’t share your intimate dreams with him (even if he asks).
Don’t kiss him, and definitely don’t sleep with him.
Scout Dunne and I have been “just friends” since childhood.
He’s everything you could want—sexy, charming, confident—every girl’s wet dream.
Until we broke The Rules.
We broke them in the ocean, in my aunt’s bathroom, in my bed…
It was the hottest week of my life.
I’m one of the few people who knows the first-draft NFL star wants more than a life of sports.
Because we’re friends, right?
Now he’s gone, and I’m trying to get my career back on track.
Mamma said a guy would never put your dreams ahead of his.
But the twist of fate?
It’s something you never see coming.
(TWIST OF FATE is a STAND-ALONE friends-to-lovers, single-parent romance. No cheating. No cliffhanger.)

I’ve been waiting for Scout’s story ever since I met him in This Much is True, which also happened to be the first book I have read by Tia Louise. And when I saw it would be a friends-to-lovers / surprise pregnancy romance, I was oh-so-ready for it. It sure was a super quick and enjoyable read, with lighter tones, a couple with a whole lot of sizzling chemistry, a great crew of secondary characters and an adorable quarterback princess!
Twist of Fate is Tia’s newest release, it belongs in her Taking Chances series but it can be read as a standalone. Scout Dunne and Daisy Sales are very much opposites but as soon as they start getting to know each other, a beautiful connection sparks. And that is not the only thing starting. But these two have rules, rules against taking it to another level but those are 100% broken after they start having sex. Circumstances though separate them for four years and when Scout is back (with a Hollywood career blooming) he finds he did not leave just Daisy behind. Is their connection still there or is it too late?
What am I doing? This is playing with matches, and if I’m not careful, I’m going to get burned beyond recognition.
I have to say, Tia Louise’s books feel like those ones you thoroughly enjoy because they are quick, light and sexy. And this is exactly what Twist of Fate is. It’s a love story, with a couple that has an instant connection and they take their friendship to the next level. It gets even better when, after the couple reunites, there is an adorable child as a result. We see how Scout and Daisy evolve, as people and as a couple, and it’s quite amazing to see them (after years separated) working on their relationship and starting a new life with their daughter. However, I do have to say I enjoyed more the first installment: This Much is True. I had a stronger connection with the couple and their story. Daisy and Scout took a little bit for me to love, I guess it was because their relationship developed a bit too fast for my taste. Still, I really enjoyed their love story!
It’s not what fate had in mind. It’s the ending we never saw coming. Maybe sometimes you see the twist, and sometimes it catches you by surprise.
Therefore, I am rating Twist of Fate with 3.5 STARS because it was a very enjoyable light romance between other reads that I quite enjoyed. Not my favorite from Tia Louise but I cannot say much still because this is only my second book from hers. Scout and Daisy’s chemistry was super hot and their connection with Melody was adorable. I love a good surprise pregnancy! And I am definitely excited to read how Spencer and Sly fall in love now. Looks like a workplace romance is coming next and I am here for it!
“It’s been a long time since we danced together.”
She doesn’t look up, but her smile grows. “It was homecoming, first dance of the year.”
“And the last. I still can’t believe you didn’t go to prom with me. All high school romances end at the prom.”
Her nose curls. “We were not a high school romance.”
“We might’ve been. The high school quarterback, all around hot guy who falls for the quiet, bookish future librarian. It’s the perfect setup for a movie.”
“All-around hot guy…” Her brown eyes roll adorably, and I’m glad the tension seems to have melted. “I’m not a future librarian.”
“I know.” I think about that night. “You did promise to have my back, though.”
“Until you broke the rules and kissed me.”
“It was a really good kiss. We should try it again to see if we’ve still got it.”
She steps out of my arms. “I’ve got a job to finish. Then I’m leaving Fireside.”
“Okay.” I shrug. “I’m not going to be here for long. Maybe we could pass the time together. Hang out.” I lean down to catch her eye. “What do you say, Tink?”
“Tinkerbell. You remind me of her.”
“Does that make you Peter Pan, the eternal man-child?”
“I’m no child.” It comes out a bit hungrier than I intended, and her cheeks turn red so fast.
Should I say oops? I’m sure as hell not taking it back.
“I’ve got to go.”
She does it, too. She walks off, leaving me alone on the dance floor…
